LedgerUp vs Stripe for Salesforce Platform: Stripe's Own App vs Contract-Aware Billing Automation
Stripe's app puts Stripe data in Salesforce and gives admins a toolkit. LedgerUp does the billing from the contract.
If you run Salesforce and Stripe Billing, Stripe's free app should be on your list. This page is about what it does, where it hands the work back to an admin, and why many teams run it alongside LedgerUp.
Stripe for Salesforce Platform is Stripe's managed package on AppExchange. It syncs Stripe Billing objects into Salesforce as custom objects, ships flow templates for opportunity-, order-, and quote-to-subscription, supports subscription lifecycle management, and exposes an integration builder for Flow Builder and Apex, at no license fee. LedgerUp is contract-aware billing automation: the agent Ari reads the signed contract and CPQ lines, creates and maintains the Stripe subscriptions, schedules, and invoices, runs collections and procurement portal submission, reconciles payouts to the ERP, and writes payment status back to Salesforce. Stripe's app makes Stripe visible in Salesforce and gives admins the tools to automate. LedgerUp does the automation, from the contract.
Side-by-side comparison
Highlighted cells mark where each product is the stronger choice. Stripe's app wins on cost and data visibility; LedgerUp wins on the billing work.
| Capability | Stripe for Salesforce Platform | LedgerUp |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Stripe's managed package on AppExchange: Stripe Billing objects synced into Salesforce as custom objects, flow templates for opportunity-, order-, and quote-to-subscription, and an integration builder for Flow Builder and Apex | Contract-aware billing automation: the agent Ari reads the signed contract and CPQ lines, creates and maintains the Stripe objects, runs collections and portal submission, reconciles payouts to the ERP, and writes status to Salesforce |
| Cost | No license fee for the app; standard Stripe processing and Stripe Billing fees✓ | Starter published at $500 per month, flat; Growth and Enterprise quoted |
| Stripe data inside Salesforce | Customers, products, prices, subscriptions, and invoices as Salesforce objects, event-driven and bidirectional, with a one-click billing data sync✓ | Summary fields on the account and opportunity: IDs, invoice status, paid date, open balance, past due, collections state |
| Closed won to subscription | Flow templates an admin configures; works when Salesforce products map cleanly to Stripe prices | Built from the contract and CPQ lines: subscription, schedule, milestone invoices, or metered prices, approved in Slack✓ |
| Reads the signed contract | No; the flow knows the opportunity and quote fields | Yes, and reconciles the order form against the quote before anything is created✓ |
| Ramps, minimums, included usage | Possible if an admin models each as fields and builds the schedule or tier logic in Flow | Applied as written in each contract; usage rated against the allowance before it reaches Stripe✓ |
| Amendments | Subscription lifecycle management through flows; proration and co-terming are configuration | Amendment read, prorated from the effective date, co-termed, remaining ramp phases rewritten, previewed before applying✓ |
| Payment status back to Salesforce | Synced invoice and subscription objects; totals, aging, tasks, and alerts are flows and reports an admin builds | Status, paid date, open balance, past due, and aging written to the account and opportunity; task and Slack alert on failed charges |
| Collections, portals, ERP reconciliation | Not in scope | Contextual collections, invoice submission to Ariba, Coupa, Bill.com, and Tipalti, payout reconciliation to NetSuite, QuickBooks, or Sage Intacct✓ |
| Who maintains it | A Salesforce admin who owns the flows and the product mapping | Finance or RevOps from Slack; Salesforce admin time is the OAuth connection |
| Best fit | Teams whose Stripe catalog already mirrors their Salesforce products, who want Stripe data visible in Salesforce, and who have an admin to build the flows | Teams with negotiated contracts who want billing, collections, and reconciliation handled from the contract without a flow per deal shape |
Stripe app facts are from Stripe's AppExchange listing and documentation as of September 2026.
Where Stripe's app hands the work back
It is a good app. These are the points where an admin, or finance, picks the process back up.
The flow knows the opportunity, not the order form
Net 45, a year-two uplift, 50,000 included API calls, a PO requirement: if those live in the signed PDF and not in mapped fields, the flow creates a subscription on default terms. Ari reads the PDF and reconciles it against the quote lines.
Product mapping is the step that stalls
The app needs Salesforce products mapped to Stripe prices. When the two catalogs were built by different teams at different times, the mapping project is where implementations pause. A contract-aware layer creates the missing price, tagged with the quote line, and moves on.
Every deal shape is a flow
Flat subscriptions, ramps, milestones, usage, co-termed add-ons, downgrades at renewal: each one is a branch or a separate flow an admin builds and maintains. The app is a toolkit; the billing process is still yours to assemble.
It ends at the invoice
Collections follow-ups, procurement portal submission, and matching the Stripe payout to invoices in NetSuite or QuickBooks are outside the app's scope. Those are the hours finance still spends after the sync works.
Two other Stripe listings solve different problems
Stripe Billing Connector for Salesforce CPQ maps CPQ quote lines to subscriptions (its documentation page was not reachable when we checked in September 2026; confirm status with Stripe). Stripe Connector for Salesforce Billing makes Stripe a payment gateway when Salesforce owns the invoice. Neither reads contracts or runs collections.
When Stripe's app is enough, when it is not
The deciding question is where your billing terms live: in mapped fields, or in the order form.
Stripe's app is enough if...
- Your Stripe catalog already mirrors your Salesforce products and deals are list price
- You want Stripe customers, subscriptions, and invoices visible and reportable inside Salesforce
- You have a Salesforce admin who will own the flows and the product mapping
- You want to start at no license fee and add tooling later
- Your amendments are simple quantity changes with standard proration
You need LedgerUp if...
- Order forms carry negotiated terms: ramps, minimums, included usage, milestones, PO and portal requirements
- You want the subscription built from the contract and checked against the quote, not from mapped fields
- You want collections, portal submission, and ERP reconciliation handled after the invoice
- Finance or RevOps needs to run billing without a flow per deal shape
- You want to keep Stripe Billing and Salesforce exactly as they are and be live in days
Running both
The common setup: Stripe's app for visibility in Salesforce, LedgerUp for the billing work. Here is who does what.
| Moment | Stripe for Salesforce Platform | LedgerUp |
|---|---|---|
| Opportunity closes | Nothing yet, unless a flow is built | Ari reads the contract and quote lines and creates the Stripe customer, subscription or schedule, and first invoice |
| Stripe objects exist | Syncs them into Salesforce as objects; reps see the subscription on the account | Writes IDs, status, and open balance to the account and opportunity |
| Customer expands mid-term | Syncs the updated subscription once it changes | Applies the amendment with proration and co-terming, previewed in Slack |
| Invoice goes past due | Synced invoice shows status open; a report or flow surfaces it if built | Collections follow-up sent with contract context; task for the owner on a failed charge |
| Payout lands | Not in scope | Payout, fees, refunds, and disputes matched to invoices in the ERP |
Salesforce and Stripe, billed from the contract
HappyRobot runs Salesforce, DocuSign, Stripe, and Slack. With Ari reading contracts and driving Stripe, the billing cycle went from 5 to 7 days to 15 minutes, $72.5K of overages were recovered in the first 30 days, and the team saves 60 hours a month.

Cost, what syncs, CPQ, the other Stripe listings, and running both.
Is Stripe for Salesforce Platform free?
The app carries no license fee from Stripe. You pay standard Stripe processing fees and Stripe Billing fees on the subscriptions it creates, plus the admin time to map products and build the flows.
What does Stripe for Salesforce Platform sync?
Stripe Billing objects (customers, products, prices, subscriptions, invoices) into Salesforce as custom objects, with a one-click billing data sync, event-driven updates, and bidirectional changes. It also ships flow templates for opportunity-to-subscription, order-to-subscription, and quote-to-subscription, subscription lifecycle management, and an integration builder for Flow Builder and Apex.
Can Stripe's Salesforce app create a subscription when an opportunity closes?
Yes, through the opportunity-to-subscription flow template, provided the Salesforce products are mapped to Stripe prices and the deal is what the opportunity fields say. Terms that live only in the signed order form, ramps, included usage, and PO requirements need additional flow logic or a contract-aware layer.
Does the Stripe Salesforce app handle Salesforce CPQ?
Stripe publishes a separate Billing Connector for Salesforce CPQ that maps quote lines to Stripe subscriptions. Its documentation page was not reachable when we checked in September 2026, so confirm its support status with Stripe before building on it. LedgerUp reads CPQ quote lines directly and reconciles them against the signed contract.
Can I use Stripe for Salesforce Platform and LedgerUp together?
Yes, and many teams do. Stripe's app gives Salesforce users visibility into Stripe objects; LedgerUp does the billing work: reading contracts, building and maintaining the Stripe objects, running collections and portal submission, reconciling payouts to the ERP, and writing status and tasks to Salesforce. They do not conflict, because LedgerUp creates objects in Stripe and the app syncs them into Salesforce.
What is the Stripe Connector for Salesforce Billing?
A different Stripe listing for a different architecture: Salesforce Billing (part of Revenue Cloud) owns the invoice and Stripe processes the payment as a gateway. It applies when billing moves into Salesforce. The comparison on this page assumes Stripe Billing stays the subscription system.
Is LedgerUp on AppExchange?
No. LedgerUp is not a managed package; it connects to Salesforce over OAuth with read and write access to opportunities, accounts, contacts, custom objects, and attachments, and to Stripe by API key. There is nothing to install in your org, and typical setup is 1 to 2 days.
